The Church - Targeted for Destruction

In the past weeks we have focused upon the impact that the Cancel Culture Movement has had upon the depictions of America's past.  Statues of Confederate Civil War generals have been targeted - some have been destroyed, others removed.  Christopher Columbus has also been targeted because he was responsible for the destruction of the indigenous American Indians through the introduction of European sicknesses and conquest.  Recently Andrew Jackson's statue in Lafayette Park in Washington DC has come under assault; the seventh President of the United States not only owned slaves, but also was instrumental in the removal of American Indians to reservations west of the Mississippi River.  Of course, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson are targeted because, as everyone knows, they owned slaves - never mind that Washington and Jefferson were part of the foundation upon which the greatest nation in the world was created.  But the radical Leftist mobs are not satisfied with the can

The Danger in Removing Statues and the Purging of History

Last week Dennis Prager posted a powerful article on the present push to destroy statues and to erase the "evils" from America's historical past.  You can find the article at: www.patriotpost.us/opinions/71421-will-jewish-and-christian-schools-teach-the-truth-about-america-and-racism .  Allow me to share just a portion of that article.  I highly recommend that you read it in its entirety.  Dr. Prager begins his article by quoting from Exodus 23:2, "Do not follow the majority to do evil."  Dr. Prager writes: "At the time Rabbi Schneerson [note: he was one of the most influential rabbis of the 20th century] described America as a 'country of kindness,' the southern half of America enforced immoral and degrading Jim Crow laws, and racism was common in the North as well.  I have noted the anti-Semitism in American life at that time.  And gays were often ostracized and degraded. "But the Torah teaches us that we are not to compare the past with th

The Cancel Culture Movement; Another Supreme Court Failure

A recurring evil has resurrected itself in America today.  It is known as the "Cancel Culture" movement.  We witness its presence with the defacing and even destruction of statues and monuments representative of America's past. There is seemingly no one who is beyond the vilification of this leftist movement.  Christopher Columbus - no longer the one who discovered the Americas; now he is the villain who brought death and disease to the indigenous Americans living here.  Thomas Jefferson - no longer the one who wrote the Declaration of Independence, one of the greatest documents in the English language and one, under whose administration, our nation nearly doubled in size; now he is the villain because he happened to own slaves.  Abraham Lincoln - no longer the one who emancipated slavery and led our nation through one of its darkest hours; now he is just another "white bigot" who did not fully accept the equality of the blacks whom he had liberated.  Robert E.

George Floyd: A Troubling Postscript

Yesterday George Floyd was finally laid to rest in a small community outside of Houston, TX.  Until his untimely and tragic death, George Floyd was unknown by most Americans and certainly was unknown around the world.  Yet, nearly every media outlet from around the world gathered yesterday in Houston for his service.  His service was televised around the world.  The central message delivered by Rev. Al Sharpton focused upon the need for racial and social justice. Yet the civil unrest and rioting continues.  Police officers have been assaulted.  At last count, over 600 had been injured, with about 10 being killed while in the line of duty.  City Councils and State officials have raised the cry to either defund the police departments or, as in the case of the City of Minneapolis, to totally disband the police department.  Both the mayors of New York City and Los Angeles have pledged to slash tens of millions of dollars from their respective police departments.  What will be the consequ

A Response to Troubled Times

At first I was stunned, then I was horrified, then I grew angry in my spirit when I saw the video of a now former Minneapolis police officer with his knee pressed upon the neck of George Floyd on a Minneapolis street.  Mr. Floyd had been arrested and handcuffed over a possible forgery charge.  While lying there on that pavement, we heard the cries of "I can't breathe" being uttered over and over.  Anger mounted as the officer, Derek Chauvin, did nothing.  The knee was not removed.  Mr. Floyd was not placed into a nearby squad car.  Finally, as we all know, and we all witnessed, Mr. Floyd ultimately died.  I remember watching that video and saying to my wife, "Honey, we have just witnessed a murder."  Was this a rush to judgment?  Perhaps, but the video evidence was incontrovertible.  Mr. Floyd was unarmed - he never possessed a weapon even when he was arrested.  He was in handcuffs.  What happened certainly seemed to be counter to proper police procedure.  The
